Japan Education Association estimates the cost of switching to September enrollment

Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has finalized a new fundraising framework totaling over 100 billion yen. In addition to raising 80-90 billion yen from Ichigo Asset Group, an independent investment fund, JDI will also sell some of its facilities at its Hakusan plant (Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture) to Apple Inc. On April 12, JDI announced that it had reached a basic agreement with Ichigo Trust to raise up to 90 billion yen from Ichigo. Minoru Kikuoka, president of JDI, explained the purpose of the framework at a press conference on January 12, saying, "We will sell assets in order to enhance our capital and at the same time minimize the impact on existing shareholders through dilution. Joint Conference by SOMPO Holdings and Palantir Technologies

Palantir Technologies (California) , a U.S. provider of big data analysis, announced on the 18th that it has established a joint venture with SOMPO Holdings (HD) (photo). On December 1, Palantir will provide a service to analyze all kinds of data within Japanese companies and public institutions, including Excel, e-mail, and call records. The data will be used to predict the possibility of free recalls of automobile parts and to detect money laundering. The new company, Palantir Technologies Japan (Chuo Ward, Tokyo), is 50% owned by Palantir and 50% by SOMPOHD. It will be capitalized at 100 million dollars (about 10.8 billion yen), and aims to achieve sales of 100 billion yen in the medium to long term. Mitsubishi Chemical HD to make Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation a wholly owned subsidiary

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings (HD) announced on the 18th that it will invest up to 491.8 billion yen to make its consolidated subsidiary Mitsubishi Tanabe Pharma Corporation a wholly owned subsidiary. FUJIFILM Holdings (HD) announced on November 5 that it will make Fuji Xerox its wholly owned subsidiary in early November. The company will acquire 25% of Fuji Xerox's shares and its stake in its U.S. affiliates, and pay a total of $2.3 billion (about 253 billion yen) to Xerox. When Xerox fell into financial difficulties, Fujifilm HD announced in 2006 that it would acquire shares in Xerox and aim for a management integration between Xerox and Fuji Xerox. However, shareholders opposed to the acquisition of Xerox filed a lawsuit to stop the acquisition, and a U.S. court ruled to temporarily halt the acquisition, and the newly-elected management team of Xerox announced the cancellation of the acquisition agreement at the shareholders' meeting. As a result of Xerox's cancellation of the agreement, Fujifilm HD had filed a claim for damages, but has now given up on the acquisition of Xerox.
