Japan, U.S. carry out 1st missile defense test successfully
WASHINGTON, United States - A Standard Missile-3 is successfully launched from the U.S. Navy cruiser Lake Erie in the Pacific Ocean off Kauai Island in Hawaii on March 8. The Standard Missile-3 interceptor is tipped with an innovative ''clamshell'' nose cone developed by Japan. The photo was released by the U.S. Defense Department. (Kyodo)
