Nikkei clears 17,000 for 1st time in 5 yrs and 7 months
TOKYO, Japan - A stock board in Tokyo's Marunouchi district shows Japan's key Nikkei stock average ending well above the key 17,000-line in the morning of March 30, a level unseen in about five years and seven months. Buying was sparked by overnight gains in U.S. shares and optimism over the course of the Tokyo stock market in the new business year starting April 1. (Kyodo)
