Koizumi visits Yasukuni Shrine in last defiant gesture

TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi walks to the inner shrine of Yasukuni Shrine to pay homage on Aug. 15, the 61st anniversary of the end of World War II. Koizumi is the first prime minister in office to go to Yasukuni Shrine on the anniversary of the end of the war since then Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone did so in 1985. (Kyodo)
