Japan Tobacco to buy British rival Gallaher for 2.25 tril. yen

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows the Tokyo head office of Japan Tobacco Inc., the world's No.3 in the industry, which announced on Dec. 15 a basic agreement to buy its smaller rival Gallaher Group Plc of Britain for 2.25 trillion yen (about $19.08 billion), the largest-ever corporate acquisition by a Japanese firm.
