Abe visits Meiji Jingu shrine instead of Yasukuni
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe waves to well-wishers during his visit to Meiji Jinju shrine in Tokyo on Jan. 6. He chose the shrine instead of the controversial Yasukuni Shrine for his New Year's worshipping, becoming the first prime minister to do so in six years since Yoshiro Mori. (Kyodo)
