51% of Iraqis surveyed say public safety deteriorated: poll
SAMAWAH, Iraq - Local policemen stand guard at a checkpoint in Sawamah, southern Iraq, six months after Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force troops withdrew from the region. Fifty-one percent of Iraqis surveyed in Muthanna Province, where Samawah is located, believe public safety has deteriorated after multinational forces comprising troops from Japan, Britain and Australia retreated from the area, a Kyodo News survey showed on Jan. 16.
