Japan starts deployment of own ballistic missile defense system
TOKYO, Japan -Japan deployed its first ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptor system at its Air Self-Defense Force base north of Tokyo on March 30, marking the launch of its own ballistic missile defense initiative. The installation of two PAC-3 launchers at the Iruma base in Saitama Prefecture comes about a year earlier than initially scheduled. On the left is the conventional PAC-2 missile launcher. (Kyodo)
