Sales of Sharp's TV mobile phones top 5 million in 17 months

OSAKA, Japan - Sales of Sharp Corp.'s TV-equipped mobile phones (photo) have topped 5 million units in Japan since the first models hit the market in May last year, the company said Nov. 2. Overall, domestic shipments of TV mobile phones by all domestic makers totaled 13.2 million units as of the end of August, according to Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association. Sharp, the industry leader, says it will start shipping thinner TV mobile phones later this month that measure 18 millimeters in thickness, 5 mm thinner than the thinnest available models. (Kyodo)
