Tani receives 'Child-Rearing Gold Medalist' award from Fukuoka
FUKUOKA, Japan - Ryoko Tani (R, front row), who won her seventh career title at the judo world championships in Rio de Janeiro in September, receives the ''Medal of Honor for Child-Rearing Gold Medalist'' from Fukuoka Gov. Wataru Aso in a ceremony at the Fukuoka prefectural government office on Nov. 12. Tani, 32, gave birth to a son in late 2005, and the Rio championships marked her first attempt to regain the world title she last won in 2003. Fukuoka Prefecture, which has already awarded the ''Fukuoka Prefecture Medal of Honor'' and the ''Fukuoka Prefecture Sports Medal of Honor'' to Tani, created the ''Child-Rearing Gold Medalist'' award in honor of its proud native.
