1st Koshu wine exported to Britain
TOKYO, Japan - The first commercial shipment of Japanese wine for Europe was dispatched Jan. 28 to Britain from Koshu in Yamanashi Prefecture. The hand-out photo shows workers preparing for the shipment in Tokyo on Jan. 24. The European Union requires that commercial imports of more than 100 liters of wine secure quality approval from an authorized inspection agency, so the Japanese wine industry had been unable to export products except for research purposes until the National Research Institute of Brewing became the first inspection entity in Japan in October 2007.
