Zenkoji Temple declines Olympic torch relay role

TOKYO, Japan - Representatives of Zenkoji Temple in Nagano City communicate the temple's decision to decline to serve as the starting point for the Nagano leg of the Beijing Olympic torch relay to the municipal Olympic planning committee April 18. Under the original plan, events such as a torch-lighting ceremony were to have been held at a site set up in the Buddhist temple's compound from 8 a.m. on April 26. (Kyodo)
