Lights out at Tokyo Tower on summer solstice day
TOKYO, Japan - Tokyo Tower, which is usually illuminated at night, is all dark on June 21, summer solstice day, as part of a government-inspired program to remind the public to conserve energy. According to the Environment Ministry, a total of 66,000 public establishments in the nation, including supermarkets, convenience stores and schools, took part in the program, which involves switching off outside lighting from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on solstice day (Kyodo)
