Aso to go for cash benefit program despite growing opposition
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Taro Aso gives a speech at a meeting of secretaries general of his ruling Liberal Democratic Party's local branches at the LDP headquarters in Tokyo on Jan. 17. In the speech, the premier reiterated his resolve to implement a 2 trillion yen cash benefit program as planned, defending it as an effective measure to lift the slumping economy despite mounting opposition.
