Sakai races to world record at short-course nat'ls
TOKYO, Japan - Shiho Sakai of Japan celebrates on the podium after setting a new short-course world record in the women's 100-meter backstroke on the final day of the short-course national championships at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center on Feb. 22. The high school student touched the wall in 56.15 seconds to shave 0.36 off the mark established by American Natalie Coughlin in November 2007. (Kyodo)
