Meals at Guantanamo camp
GUANTANAMO BAY U.S. NAVAL BASE, Cuba - This Sept. 2, 2009 photo shows culturally appropriate meals given to detainees at a camp complex in the U.S. naval base in Cuba's Guantanamo Bay. Islamic halal meals are prepared in cooking areas strictly separated from areas for non-halal foods. Detainees have six dishes to choose from and the meals cost $3.1 million per year. Some detainees after release argue that they lost weight due to what they say is the low quality of the meals but a camp officer downplayed the dispute, saying such accusations are part of an ''information war'' former captives engage in.
