Actress, film producer Mizunoe dies at 94

TOKYO, Japan - This file photo taken in 1976 shows actress-turned-film producer Takiko Mizunoe, who died of old age Nov. 16, 2009, in Kanagawa Prefecture, at age 94, sources close to her said Nov. 21. Mizunoe joined an opera company run by Shochiku Co. in the prewar era. Jungian psychoanalyst Kawai dies at 79

TOKYO, Japan - Noted Jungian psychoanalyst and former Agency for Cultural Affairs chief Hayao Kawai (file photo taken in March, 2005) died of a brain infarction at a hospital in Tenri, Nara Prefecture, on July 19. He was 79. Kawai, who was also a professor emeritus at Kyoto University, had remained unconscious since last August when he suffered a stroke and was taken to hospital.

Ground meat mixed with pork, chicken sold as ground beef

SAPPORO, Japan - Frozen croquettes made from ''ground beef'' supplied by Meat Hope Co., a meat-processing company based in Hokkaido, were found to have been mixed with pork and chicken. Some of the ''beef croquettes'' (as labeled in the photo) were found to contain only pork, according to DNA tests conducted by frozen food maker Katokichi Co. and the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union. Police searched the premises of Meat Hope on June 24 on suspicion of violating the unfair competition prevention law. (Kyodo)

Arrest warrant issued for Japanese man over death of British wom

CHIBA, Japan - Police obtained an arrest warrant on March 27 for Tatsuya Ichihashi (in file photo), a 28-year-old Japanese man, after they discovered the previous day the body of a 22-year-old British woman in a bathtub on the balcony of an apartment in Chiba Prefecture. The man fled from the apartment when police officers visited it on March 26 after the language school the woman worked for contacted them to say they had been unable to reach her. (Kyodo)
