Group seeks to keep alive legend of 'blue-eyed dolls' as symbol of peace
Japanese artist Ayako Kishimoto (L) shows on March 31, 2015, in Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, western Japan, her painting of the first and second generations of Japanese friendship dolls, which were sent from the prefecture to the United States to reciprocate the gift of "American blue-eyed dolls" from a U.S. missionary in 1927 as a symbol of goodwill and peace. The painting will be presented to the public library of Gulfport in Mississippi in the summer. On the right is Yasuko Tanaka, representative of a committee in Matsuyama promoting the exchange of dolls between Japan and the United States. (Kyodo)
