Original audio of Emperor Showa's surrender speech made public
File photo taken Aug. 15, 1945, shows people kneeling down in front of the Imperial Palace after Emperor Hirohito announced Japan's surrender in World War II to the Allied Forces. The Imperial Household Agency made available on Aug. 1, 2015, to the public for the first time the original audio from the vinyl master records of the emperor's speech to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of the war.
