Replica of Western clock given by Spain to Japan's feudal leader
An official of the Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine in Shizuoka, central Japan, holds on Sept. 3, 2015, a replica of the wind-up Western clock that was given by the king of Spain in 1611 to Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. On the left is Johan Ten Hoeve, a London-based Dutch clock smith who produced the replica. (Kyodo)
