Experts mull means to curb harbor seal population amid fishermen's outcry
Experts meet in Sapporo on Sept. 17, 2015, to discuss measures for controlling the population of harbor seals in Hokkaido, northern Japan, after the Environment Ministry lowered their status by one level from "vulnerable" to "near threatened" on the Japanese Red List of endangered species. Fishermen have complained that the seals, whose population has recovered from a previous drop, are causing damage to their haul. (Kyodo)
