Japan's smallest whisky distiller chases big dream
Eight rare "washback" casks, or fermentation tanks, made of "mizunara" Japanese oak are lined up in front of two Scotland-made copper pot stills at Venture Whisky Ltd.'s distillery in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, on Sept. 22, 2015. Ichiro Akuto, who began producing whisky at the distillery in 2008, hopes to offer 10-year-old whisky when Japan hosts the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. (Kyodo)
