UNESCO adds WWII Japanese detainees' records to world memory list
Nobuo Kiuchi, a survivor of post-World War II internment of Japanese nationals by the Soviet Union, points to his sketches in Maizuru, Kyoto Prefecture, on Oct. 9, 2015, about life during his three years in Ukraine. The drawings, exhibited at the Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum, were added by UNESCO, along with other items of interned Japanese troops and civilians, to its "Memory of the World" program on Oct. 10.
