Miyagi stays distant from tsunami-hit school preservation
Photo taken in May 2015 shows Okawa Elementary School's building in the Miyagi prefectural city of Ishinomaki in northeastern Japan. A total of 84 teachers and students of the school were killed or went missing in the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster. Miyagi Gov. Yoshihiro Murai said on Oct. 19, 2015, the prefecture will not be actively involved in preservation of the school building. (Kyodo)
