LDP's tax panel chief explains reduced-rate consumption tax plan
Yoichi Miyazawa, head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's tax panel, indicates in an interview with Kyodo News in Tokyo on Oct. 20, 2015, that he wants to narrow down the scope of food items eligible for a reduced consumption tax rate at 8 percent when it is raised to 10 percent in April 2017. The Komeito party, the LDP's junior coalition partner, is calling for the inclusion of all food items, except alcoholic beverages, into the reduced rate list. (Kyodo)
