Memorial service held for drafted students killed in WWII
Participants offer flowers during a ceremony in Minamiawaji, Hyogo Prefecture, western Japan, on Oct. 21, 2015, at a memorial tower for some 200,000 students who died on the battlefront and in domestic factories during World War II. The tower, built in 1967 and resembling the nib of a fountain pen as a symbol of the students, reopened in March following renovations. It had been closed since 1995. (Kyodo)
