Offspring seedling from "miracle pine" to be offered to west Japan shrine

File photo taken on Sept. 15, 2015, shows a "miracle lone pine tree," the only one of about 70,000 pines along the coast of northeastern Japan's Rikuzentakata that initially withstood the massive tsunami of 2011. A citizens' group that has been nurturing seedlings from the pine said on Nov. 13 it will offer a seedling to Izumo Shrine in Shimane Prefecture, western Japan, in March 2016 in hopes of keeping the disaster's lessons alive for future generations.
