Southern Japan's Miyazaki replaces overgrown palm trees lining highway
Workers remove one of the Washingtonia palm trees lining the medial strip of a national highway in Miyazaki, southwestern Japan, on Nov. 12, 2015, to replace them with young ones as the trees have grown too tall to prune and shape. The late local tourism developer Shotaro Iwakiri started planting the palm trees in 1964 to create a warm southern atmosphere. (Kyodo)
