'Hot spots' in Fukushima declared safe but few returning home
Bags full of contaminated waste occupy extensive areas of deserted fields on Jan. 22, 2015, in the Takakura district of Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, which have turned into temporary storage sites. The Japanese government has lifted its evacuation advisory for the once "hot spot" area in northeastern Japan by saying radioactive contamination from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant has returned to safe levels, but very few evacuees have actually decided to move back.
