'Maiko' entertainment girls scatter beans at Kyoto shrine festival
"Maiko" or traditional female apprentice entertainers clad in kimono scatter beans during an annual "Setsubun" (seasonal division) festival at the Yasaka-jinja Shinto shrine in Kyoto, western Japan, on Feb. 2, 2015. On the eve of the day that ushers in the advent of spring under the Japanese lunar calendar, beans are scattered in various parts of Japan to drive away evil spirits for the year to come in a traditional ritual.
