Okinawa governor seeks relocation of U.S. base outside prefecture
Okinawa Gov. Takeshi Onaga speaks to reporters during his visit to the Defense Ministry in Tokyo on Feb. 5, 2015. He is demanding that the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station be shut down within five years and relocated outside Okinawa instead of the agreed Japan-U.S. plan to transfer its functions from a densely populated area in Ginowan to a coastal area in Nago within the southernmost Japan prefecture.
