New robot unveiled for probing reactor gear at Fukushima station

The International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning (IRID) and Hitachi-GE Nuclear Energy Ltd. unveil at a Hitachi-GE plant in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, eastern Japan, on Feb. 5, 2015, a new tubular-shaped robot to be used for probing containment vessels of nuclear reactors at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi atomic power plant. The robot can pass through piping work in tubular form and then transform itself into a U shape (as pictured) for more stable movement once inside the containment vessel. (Kyodo) ==Kyodo
