Pillar supporting Tokyo station for 100 yrs removed

Workers remove one of 14 cast-iron pillars on Feb. 17, 2015, that have been supporting Tokyo Station since its opening in 1914. The 3-meter-tall column, which bears relief art on the upper part and helped the station survive the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 as well as wartime bombing, is to be reinstalled as a monument on the same platform.
