Shining pearl cultured on southern Japan's Kakero Island
A shining cultured pearl is seen on a Mabe shell on the island of Kakero south of Kagoshima Prefecture on Feb. 20, 2015, when the work to bring ashore pearl-containing Mabe shells from offshore rafts starts for this year's season. The work will continue through mid-March and a total of about 60,000 hemispherical Mabe pearls are expected to be shipped. (Kyodo)
