Underground shopping street in Nagoya sees SoHo as revival model
Tateo Koike, head of an association of retailers on the Fushimi underground shopping street in the central Japan city of Nagoya, stands in the area on Feb. 16, 2015. He envisions a plan to revive the area by encouraging young artists to stay at empty shops like in the SoHo district of New York City. The Fushimi street, built by textile wholesalers as a link to a nearby fabric town, is one of the oldest underground shopping districts in Japan. (Kyodo)
