Japanese cypress bark peeled for roofing at Kasugataisha shrine
A specialist peels off the bark of a Japanese cypress tree on a trial basis in a planted forest adjacent to the Kasugayama Primeval Forest, a World Heritage Site, in Nara, western Japan, on Feb. 3, 2015. The bark will be used for Kasugataisha shrine's new roof, customarily done once every 20 years. (Kyodo)
