Japan, U.S. commemorate WWII war dead on Iwoto Island
U.S. veterans jointly offer a wreath of flowers at a memorial monument during a ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of one of the fiercest battles of World War II on Iwoto Island in the Pacific on March 21, 2015. Japan and the United States held the ceremony to mark the Battle of Iwojima, the previous name of the island, with 550 participants including veterans, relatives of the dead and senior government officials from the two countries.
