Japanese-American WWII veteran pays 1st postwar visit to Okinawa
U.S. war veteran Harold Okumura (L) reunites on April 1, 2015, with islanders who were housed in a prison camp in Nago, Okinawa Prefecture, southwestern Japan, during and after the Battle of Okinawa in World War II. Okumura, a third-generation Japanese-American living in Hawaii, fought in the battle as a U.S. military interpreter and worked in Okinawa between June 1945 and fall 1946. It was his first visit to Okinawa since the war. (Kyodo)
