Japan's Meiji industrial sites endorsed for World Heritage listing
File photo taken in July 2014 shows a decaying housing complex at Hashima Coal Mine on Hashima Island, popularly known as "Battleship Island," off Nagasaki in southwestern Japan. Hashima Coal Mine is among the 23 "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution" that a UNESCO advisory panel has recommended for World Heritage status. (Kyodo)
