Tsunami-hit school building to be kept as part of 2011 quake ruins
The Arahama Elementary School building in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan, as seen from a Kyodo News drone on May 8, 2015, will be preserved by the municipal government as part of the ruins left by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami to pass on the disaster's lessons to future generations. The school was flooded by tsunami up to its second floor, but rescuers saved more than 300 people from its rooftop, including pupils and residents from the neighborhood. (Kyodo)
