Tokyo Olympic cauldron to be lit in tsunami-hit city
The cauldron used in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics is set for being lifted by a heavy machine on June 18, 2015, at a park in the northeastern Japanese city of Ishinomaki, which was gravely affected by the March 2011 tsunami. The cauldron that symbolized Japan's restoration from World War II will be lit at a ceremony on June 27 attended by Olympic athletes. It will eventually be returned to the National Stadium, the main venue for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. (Kyodo)
