Former women's judo champ Tanabe serves as chief referee
Two-time Olympic women's judo silver medalist Yoko Tanabe (C) serves as chief referee for the women's national judo championship in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo, on April 19, 2015. Tanabe, an executive board member of the All-Japan Judo Federation, made a name in the 1980s and 1990s as a top-notch judoka although a gold medal proved elusive for her on the world stage. (Kyodo)
