Okinawa marks 70th anniversary of WWII battle
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe addresses a memorial service at the Peace Memorial Park in Itoman in the southernmost island prefecture of Okinawa on June 23, 2015, for those who were killed in the Battle of Okinawa, as the day marked the 70th anniversary of the end of the World War II ground battle that claimed over 200,000 lives. He said he will make tireless efforts to achieve global peace, but stopped short of referring to the controversial U.S. military base relocation plan. (Kyodo)
