Monument honors victims of 1974 WWII bomb explosion in Okinawa
Photo taken June 19, 2015, shows a monument honoring victims of a 1974 tragedy that occurred when an undetonated World War II bomb exploded near St. Matthew Kindergarten in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, killing four people and injuring 34 others. An estimated 2,000 tons of unexploded military ordnance from the war remain in Okinawa, and explosions have killed 710 people over the past 70 years since the end of the war. (Kyodo)
