Shinto ceremony held to pray for climbers' safety
A Shinto ceremony is held in the village of Otaki on the seventh station of Mt. Ontake on July 1, 2015, to commemorate people killed in an eruption in September 2014 and pray for the safety of those climbing the volcano in central Japan. Local authorities the same day lifted a ban on climbing the volcano, about nine months after the eruption killed 57 people and left six others missing, although entry into a 2-kilometer radius around the crater is still restricted.
