Sockeye salmon prices soar at auction ahead of Russian ban
A fishmonger in Nemuro, Hokkaido Prefecture, northern Japan, lays out the day's catch of sockeye salmon after the season's first auction on July 6, 2015. The store price of sockeye salmon has doubled from the previous year as many believe this will be the last year Japanese fishermen can catch the fish in Russia's exclusive economic zone before Moscow's ban on drift-net fishing in waters off Russia's eastern coast takes effect on Jan. 1, 2016.
