Japan ruling camp rams security bills through lower house
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe meets with reporters in Tokyo on July 16, 2015, after the House of Representatives approved controversial security bills to expand the role of the Self-Defense Forces abroad. "The security situation surrounding Japan has become increasingly severe. In this recognition, we absolutely need the bills to ensure people's lives and to prevent war from occurring," Abe said, in an apparent rebuttal of critics who have labeled the bills "war legislation."
