Son publishes "Green Father" Sugiyama's WWII memoir
A World War II memoir (C) by Tatsumaru Sugiyama, better known as the Green Father for devoting his postwar life to planting trees in India's deserts, is shown in this photo taken on March 30, 2015. It was published by his son Mitsumaru, nearly 30 years after Sugiyama's death in 1987. In the background is Sugiyama's documentary of operations undertaken by the Imperial Japanese Army's No. 31 Air Combat Group, to which he belonged as a maintenance captain during the war. The memoir was written on the basis of his diaries at the time. (Kyodo)
