Alumni from biracial orphanage in postwar Japan gather for "reunion"
Former residents of Elizabeth Saunders Home, an orphanage established in Japan in 1948 for abandoned biracial children born between U.S. occupation troops and Japanese women, gather to celebrate ex-resident Joni Honda's (4th from L) wedding in Las Vegas on July 25, 2015. About 2,000 such children who were ostracized in Japan due to their looks and left by their parents because of poverty lived in the orphanage in Oiso, southwest of Tokyo. (Kyodo)
