Japan restarts nuclear reactor after 2-year hiatus
People stage a sit-in in front of Kyushu Electric Power Co.'s Sendai nuclear plant in Satsumasendai, Kagoshima Prefecture, on the morning of Aug. 11, 2015, prior to the resumption of the No. 1 reactor of the plant. Japan reactivated a nuclear reactor on the day for the first time in nearly two years despite strong safety concerns among the public following the catastrophe at the Fukushima Daiichi complex triggered by a powerful earthquake and tsunami in March 2011.
